The 55 Flowery Hen is a modern composite breed developed by Martin Silverudd, created with the goal of producing an efficient, hardy, and productive chicken well suited for practical farm use. 55 Flowery Hens are known for their excellent foraging ability, calm temperament, and dependable laying. Eggs are white and typically range in size from large to extra-large (L–XL), with natural variation between individual hens.

This is an autosexing breed, and chicks from this pairing can be reliably sexed at hatch based on down color. Cockerels hatch with lighter cream-colored down, while pullets hatch with a darker red-brown “chipmunk” pattern, allowing for clear visual sexing at hatch.
