SASSY HEN HOMESTEAD 2026 CHICK AND HATCHING EGG SALES POLICIES

Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my birds. Raising chickens is truly my happy place, and I’m so grateful for everyone who supports my little farm.

Before placing an order, please take a moment to read through these policies. By ordering, you’re agreeing to them. Nothing scary here, just helpful info and friendly guidance to make sure your chicks and eggs get the best possible start.

I run a small, quality-focused operation. That means I don’t hatch or sell huge numbers of birds, so availability can be limited, but it also allows me to focus on healthy, well-cared-for chicks and eggs.

If you ever have questions before ordering, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m always happy to help.

CHICKS (LOCAL PICKUP ONLY)

• All chicks are sold straight-run unless explicitly stated otherwise. Pullets are limited, as it takes hatching a lot of eggs to end up with a few girls.

• I typically do not sell older pullets or hens, as I keep the best birds for my breeding program. Occasionally, culls may be available and will be posted if so.

• WAITLIST: Those on the waitlist will receive a 24-hour heads-up before chicks are listed publicly. If I don’t hear back, your spot rolls over to the next hatch. After two rollovers, you won’t be automatically added again, but you’re always welcome to reach out.

All chicks are sold straight-run unless otherwise noted. While I breed with intention and select my breeding stock carefully, I cannot guarantee sex, color, pattern, temperament, egg color or shade, future laying performance, or suitability for breeding or showing.

Sex is only guaranteed for autosexing breeds, and only when those breeds are clearly labeled as such.

PICKUP AND BIOSECURITY

• For the health and safety of my birds, farm visits are not permitted.

• Pickups take place in Pike County, Georgia. For longer drives, I may be willing to meet halfway. Travel costs may apply unless I’m already headed that direction.

• Please arrive on time and communicate if plans change. Life happens, and I understand! If I’m unable to reach you, your chicks may be offered to the next buyer so everything continues to run smoothly.

MIXING CHICKS

• For the safety of your new fluffballs, please avoid mixing them with chicks from other sources right away. Even healthy-looking chicks can carry germs.

• New chicks should be kept separate for at least two weeks. Be sure to wash hands, change clothes, and use separate equipment when caring for different groups.

Once chicks leave my care, their health becomes the buyer’s responsibility.

GETTING OFF TO A GOOD START

• Please have your brooder fully set up before pickup. Start at 95°F for the first week, lowering the temperature by 5°F each week.

• Provide a safe heat source, fresh water, and quality chick starter feed. Limit handling for the first few days so chicks can settle in.

• Each chick order includes a handwarmer to help keep them cozy on the ride home.

• Chicks are ready for pickup at three days old. A minimum order of three chicks is required.

• All live poultry sales are final. Roosters are not taken back under any circumstances due to strict biosecurity practices.

• I am not responsible for incubator or brooder issues once chicks leave my care.

LOCAL PICKUP HATCHING EGGS

• A 50% non-refundable deposit via PayPal is required before egg collection, with the remaining balance due at pickup.

• Eggs are collected daily and will be no older than three days post-lay, typically closer to two. Fertility is incubated and tested weekly to ensure it is on track.

• Once eggs are picked up, refunds or replacements are not available. Incubation can be unpredictable, even with fertile eggs. While fertility often averages around 90%, hatch rates are never guaranteed. A hands-off incubation approach is recommended.

• I am not responsible for incubator or brooder malfunctions once eggs leave my care.

Hatching eggs are considered a non-guaranteed agricultural product, and results may vary.

SHIPPED HATCHING EGGS

• Live chicks are not shipped. Shipping is limited to hatching eggs only.

• Shipped egg availability depends on USPS reliability and may be limited.

• A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve shipped eggs, with the remaining balance due prior to shipping. Orders will not ship without full payment.

• Eggs are packed carefully and shipped no older than three days post-lay. Shipments may be delayed due to extreme weather.

• No refunds or replacements are offered once eggs are shipped. Hatch rates cannot be guaranteed, but I’m always happy to answer incubation questions.

• I am not responsible for incubator or brooder malfunctions once eggs leave my care.

All shipped packages include up to $100 in carrier insurance, which applies only to verified loss or damage as determined by the shipping carrier. Insurance does not cover hatch rates, shipping delays, temperature exposure, or incubation outcomes.

UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES

Sometimes things happen that are outside of anyone’s control. If unforeseen circumstances prevent me from fulfilling your order, your order will be refunded in full. I am not responsible for additional losses or expenses beyond the amount paid.

NO RESALE

Chicks and hatching eggs purchased from Sassy Hen Homestead may not be resold, transferred, or redistributed. Any guarantees or remedies apply only to the original purchaser.

LISTING OR PRICING ERRORS

While I do my best to keep listings accurate, mistakes can occasionally happen. If there is a listing, pricing, or availability error, I reserve the right to cancel and refund the order.

PAYMENT AND FINAL NOTES

• PayPal is accepted for shipped orders. Local pickup egg orders require a 50% deposit, with the balance due at pickup.

• Returned, disputed, or reversed payments must be resolved along with any associated fees.

• Buyers are responsible for ensuring they are legally permitted to purchase and receive poultry or hatching eggs in their location.

• Farm visits and poultry returns are not permitted.

NPIP & FLOCK HEALTH

Sassy Hen Homestead proudly participates in the National Poultry Improvement Plan (NPIP). Our flocks are regularly tested by the state veterinarian, and flock health and biosecurity are always a top priority here.

If you’d like a USDA NPIP VS Form 9-3 for your hatching egg order, just note it when placing your order. I’ll happily email the form to you after your eggs ship.
