A Homestead Grown With Heart

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here and excited to give you a closer look at the person behind the farm page. Life wasn’t always about the farm—there was a time when my world was all about city living, fashion, and fast-paced routines. But everything changed when I embraced the simple joys of raising animals, growing my own food, and creating a life with purpose on the homestead. I’ve learned that every day brings new challenges and rewards, and I’m excited to share both with you here. Whether it’s the daily farm chores, growing beautiful roses, or the heartwarming moments with my family, I’m thrilled to let you in on it all. Here’s a short blurb about who I am, and I can’t wait to take you along on this journey!
It’s hard to imagine that a childhood obsession with Pokémon would one day lead me to breeding chickens. But here I am, in 2025, completely captivated by poultry and raising a variety of breeds. What began as a fascination with collecting and caring for creatures gradually shifted into a deep love for homesteading, and now I find myself passionately breeding chickens, creating a thriving garden, and living a lifestyle I never thought I’d love so much.
I grew up in the quiet countryside of upstate New York, where life was slow and peaceful. But in my pre-teens, my family moved to Albany, the state capital. Suddenly, life became fast-paced, hectic, and a bit overwhelming. I found myself immersed in a world of city life, trying to keep up with all the demands of a busy urban environment. During this time, I developed an obsession with the latest fashion trends—designer shoes, handbags, perfume, and the best of everything. I spent my days dreaming of a future filled with high-end luxury: sleek cars, lavish accessories, and a life of glamour.
It wasn’t until my late 20s that I met my husband, and everything started to change. He was a country boy at heart, and as I got to know him, my vision of the future began to shift. We spent time together with his family who are very much into gardening and slow country life, and I started to appreciate the peace and satisfaction that comes from living a simple, grounded life. The material things that once seemed so important faded away, and I found myself more drawn to hobbies like gardening, animal husbandry, and the joys of raising our own food.
I’m still fond of beautiful things, but now my expensive tastes are for things like rare chicken breeds and heirloom roses rather than luxury handbags. Every time a new box of eggs or a batch of fresh roses arrives, my husband rolls his eyes and sighs, but he says he tolerates it because he loves seeing me smile.
Thirteen years ago, we made the decision to leave the busy city behind and move to Georgia. It was a big change, but I’ve never looked back. I left my career as a hairdresser behind, and I transitioned into a stay-at-home mother. Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I am beyond grateful to my husband for providing me the opportunity to be home with our children and raise them in a way that feels true to my heart. Watching them grow, learn, and experience the world alongside me has been the greatest gift I could ever ask for.
While adjusting to life on a farm, my love for animals grew exponentially. What began as a small backyard flock of chickens eventually turned into a full-blown passion for breeding. Today, our home is filled with life—six dogs, six cats, a guinea pig, a barn cat, and a variety of chickens and quail. And somewhere along the way, I became obsessed with garden roses. What started as a small interest has now evolved into a collection of over 240 rose bushes, all with the dream of creating a stunning English country garden that blooms in every season.
In 2022, my elderly parents moved in with us due to health issues. It has been such a joy being able to see them daily, although I’m sure at times we both annoy each other! My dad, with his incredible experience in building homes, has been an amazing help in constructing everything we need for the farm—pens, the brooder house, and even quail hutches. His expertise has made everything not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and built to last. It’s been such a blessing to work alongside him and my husband to bring our vision to life.
When my son was diagnosed with ADHD, I knew I needed to make a change to our diet. I wanted to provide him with healthier, more nutrient-dense food, so I started growing our own vegetables and fruits. It’s been a rewarding challenge, but we still struggle to get him to eat his veggies. Despite the challenges, I’m committed to offering my family farm-fresh produce, and I continue to find joy in watching the garden grow and thrive.
One of the best things about this lifestyle is the opportunity to teach my children about responsibility, hard work, and the simple pleasures of life. They are quirky, funny, and wonderfully free-spirited. I think their childhood is different from most, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. They’ve never been pressured to grow up too fast or fit into any mold. My daughter has a special love for Bantam Cochins, and she fawns over them, calling them her babies. My son adores the fluffy, funny faces of the Ameraucanas, always making sure to check on them during his daily rounds. They are my little helpers, and I couldn’t manage the farm without them—or my husband’s unwavering support.
Farm life has taught me the beauty of living intentionally and being mindful of every moment. Raising animals, growing food, and caring for the land are tasks that require patience, commitment, and consistency. These small daily routines have become the foundation of my life, and I find deep satisfaction in the work. Whether it’s gathering fresh eggs, tending to my roses, or making a home-cooked meal for my family, I’ve learned to appreciate every task and find joy in the process.
Farm life is also my sanctuary. When things feel chaotic or overwhelming, I turn to the farm for solace. There’s something incredibly calming about spending time in nature—whether it’s sitting in the garden, watching the chickens peck around the yard, or simply taking in the beauty of the sunset over the pasture. Nature has become my therapy, and it’s where I find peace when life gets a little too loud.
Although I’ve fully embraced this homesteading lifestyle, I still make time to celebrate the little things. I love baking cookies with my kids for the holidays or spending time together as a family enjoying the harvest from our garden. Family traditions have always been important to me, and I cherish the moments where we gather together and share meals and stories. Now, those traditions often revolve around farm-to-table dinners, homemade preserves, and fresh eggs from the hens we’ve raised ourselves.
Life on the farm is chaotic, messy, and beautiful all at once. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of it all, but I’ve learned to take a deep breath and let things flow. My mornings start early, usually around 5:30 AM, when I sip my coffee in the quiet of the morning before the hustle and bustle of the day begins. I enjoy these moments of peace and reflection, knowing that my day will soon be filled with farm chores, homeschooling, and time spent with my family.
In the past, I never would have imagined myself living this life, but now it feels like the most natural thing in the world. From breeding chickens to planting roses, I’ve found a deep sense of purpose in this way of living. There’s no other place I’d rather be.
