Chick and Hatching Egg Sales Policy

WELCOME & OVERVIEW

Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by and checking out my birds. Raising chickens is truly my happy place, and I’m grateful for everyone who supports my small farm.

Please read these policies carefully before ordering. By placing an order, you agree to them. Nothing scary here—just clear expectations to help ensure your chicks and eggs get the best possible start.

I operate a small, quality-focused farm. Availability is intentionally limited so I can prioritize health, care, and responsible breeding.

If you have questions before ordering, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help.

CHICKS (LOCAL PICKUP ONLY)

  • All chicks are sold straight-run unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • Pullets are limited and not guaranteed.
  • I do not typically sell older pullets or hens. Occasionally, culls may be available and will be posted if so.

Waitlist

Those on the waitlist receive a 24-hour notice before chicks are listed publicly. If no response is received, your spot rolls to the next hatch. After two rollovers, you will not be automatically added again, but you are always welcome to reach out.

While I breed with intention and carefully select breeding stock, I cannot guarantee sex (except for clearly labeled autosexing breeds), color, pattern, temperament, egg color or shade, future laying performance, or suitability for breeding or showing.

Photos represent breeding stock or similar birds. Individual chicks may vary.

PICKUP, TIMING & BIOSECURITY

  • Farm visits are not permitted for biosecurity reasons.
  • Pickup takes place in Pike County, Georgia. Limited meet-ups may be available; travel costs may apply unless I am already headed that direction.
  • Please arrive on time and communicate if plans change. If I am unable to reach you, chicks may be offered to the next buyer.

Weather & Safety

Pickup may be postponed if temperatures or weather conditions are unsafe for chicks. Their health always comes first.

MIXING CHICKS

  • Do not mix new chicks with birds from other sources immediately.
  • Quarantine for at least two weeks. Use separate equipment and practice good hygiene between groups.

Once chicks leave my care, their health and well-being become the buyer’s responsibility.

GETTING OFF TO A GOOD START

  • Brooders must be fully set up prior to pick up. Begin at 95°F, decreasing by 5°F each week.
  • Provide appropriate heat, fresh water, and quality chick starter feed.
  • Limit handling for the first few days to reduce stress.
  • Each chick order includes a hand warmer for transport.
  • Chicks are ready for pickup at three days old.
  • Minimum purchase: three chicks.
  • All live poultry sales are final.
  • Roosters are not taken back under any circumstances due to strict biosecurity practices.
  • I am not responsible for incubator, brooder, handling, or husbandry issues after pickup.

Rooster Disclaimer

I intentionally breed for calm, stable temperaments and carefully select breeding stock with behavior in mind. However, temperament is influenced by genetics, environment, handling, and maturity. As roosters grow, natural behaviors such as dominance, crowing, and territorial instincts may still develop and vary by individual.

HATCHING EGGS (LOCAL PICKUP)

  • Eggs are collected daily and are no older than three days post-lay.
  • Fertility is incubated and monitored weekly.
  • Once eggs are picked up, no refunds or replacements are available.
  • Hatch rates are never guaranteed, even with fertile eggs.
  • A hands-off incubation approach is recommended.
  • I am not responsible for incubator or brooder malfunctions after pickup.

Hatching eggs are a non-guaranteed agricultural product, and results may vary.

SHIPPED HATCHING EGGS

  • Live chicks are not shipped. Shipping is limited to hatching eggs only.
  • Shipping availability depends on USPS reliability and weather conditions.
  • Orders ship only after full payment is received.
  • Eggs ship no older than three days post-lay.
  • Shipping may be delayed due to extreme weather or carrier disruptions.
  • No refunds or replacements are offered once eggs are shipped. Hatch rates cannot be guaranteed.
  • I am not responsible for incubator or brooder issues after delivery.

Each package includes up to $100 in carrier insurance, which applies only to verified loss or physical damage as determined by the shipping carrier. Insurance does not cover hatch rates, shipping delays, temperature exposure, or incubation outcomes.

UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES (FORCE MAJEURE)

If circumstances beyond my control—including illness, weather events, postal disruptions, or other emergencies—prevent fulfillment of your order, your order will be refunded in full. I am not responsible for additional losses or expenses beyond the amount paid.

NO RESALE

Chicks and hatching eggs purchased from Sassy Hen Homestead may not be resold, transferred, or redistributed. Any remedies or considerations apply only to the original purchaser.

LISTING OR PRICING ERRORS

While I strive for accuracy, errors may occur. I reserve the right to cancel and refund orders due to listing, pricing, or availability errors.

PAYMENT, LEGAL & FINAL NOTES

  • All payments are processed securely through Shopify Payments.
  • Buyers are responsible for ensuring poultry and hatching eggs are legal to purchase and receive in their location.
  • Disputed, reversed, or returned payments must be resolved along with any associated fees.
  • Farm visits and poultry returns are not permitted.
