Egg Color Expectation

Autumn Egger eggs can range from green and olive to sage, mossy tones, and brown; not every egg in your order will be olive, and natural variation is part of this project.

Our Autumn Eggers are a love letter to fall. They’re bred here with care for gentle temperaments, good laying habits, and eggs inspired by the warm, earthy colors of the season. This listing includes six (6) fresh hatching eggs, gathered by hand and handled gently to give them the best possible beginning.

Bonus eggs included when the hens allow it.

Autumn Eggers are our own specialty green and olive egg project, created as a cozy alternative to traditional olive eggers. Egg colors can range from speckled greens and deep chocolate browns with olive undertones to rich olive, sage, mossy tones, and the occasional pretty brown. Many shells show freckles, speckling, or soft shading that give each egg its own personality. Color and pattern vary by hen and lighting, and that natural variation is part of the charm.

Because this is a mixed, evolving project, every clutch feels like a little surprise. There is no single, expected look for chicks. Colors, patterns, and features can vary widely, and some chicks may even hatch with frizzle feathers for a bit of extra flair. Watching each group grow into something uniquely their own is half the joy of this project.

The color of the egg you receive does not promise the color your pullets will eventually lay. Some hatching eggs may come in lighter green or blue-green shades. Those hens are intentionally paired with roosters from darker brown egg lines to encourage offspring with the potential for deeper green and olive-toned eggs as they mature.

This project also includes backcross olive layers, which means genetics can take a few different paths. Some chicks will inherit the blue egg gene and may go on to lay green or olive eggs, depending on how much brown pigment they also carry. Others may not inherit the blue egg gene and instead mature into brown egg layers. This variety is a natural and expected part of the Autumn Egger story.

Autumn Eggers are bred for useful, friendly flock members and egg baskets that feel like fall gathered in a nest box. They are not offered as show or exhibition quality birds, but are well suited for breeders and hobbyists who love colorful eggs, seasonal palettes, and the quiet excitement of genetic variety unfolding over time.

If you’re drawn to olive greens, speckled shells, and eggs that look like they belong beside pumpkins and fallen leaves, Autumn Eggers bring that kind of cozy magic to the coop.

 Disclaimer

Eggs are collected daily and handled with care, coming from healthy, well-maintained breeding stock here on the homestead. Each egg is stored properly prior to shipment or local pickup to give it the best possible start.

While fertility is monitored, hatching eggs are always a bit of a leap of faith. Once eggs leave the homestead, hatch rates and outcomes depend on factors beyond our control, including shipping conditions and individual incubation practices. By purchasing hatching eggs, you acknowledge these natural risks and understand that hatch and fertility cannot be guaranteed.
